It feels old and new\, fresh and classic. It holds tension and dreams and possibility in its folds. It hopes to unveil something magical\, something unheard of\, something the world needs. It smells of super burritos and vans full of lemons\, old bongs\, and epic hikes. It’s a sound of growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area. DESCRIPTION:Join us on October 2nd at the Wine Garden for an evening of music\, food\, and wine as Folktale Winery and KRML 94.7 FM proudly present Hawktail! \nHawktail is the acoustic instrumental trio of fiddler Brittany Haas\, bassist Paul Kowert\, and guitarist Jordan Tice. Though it looks like an acoustic super-picker side project at first glance\, their all-original music is cohesive and unique\, distinguishing them as an ensemble with a sound built from the ground up. Flush with orchestral sweeps and sparse vigils\, with strains of the American South and the North Atlantic; this cosmopolitan sound is not what you’d expect from a string band. \nEach member of Hawktail brings a solid individuality to the project. Haas\, whose 2004 self-titled release instantly became the touchstone for a generation of old-time fiddlers\, has since lent her sound to Crooked Still\, Live From Here\, Steve Martin\, and David Rawlings\, where she played alongside Kowert\, well known as the Grammy-winning Punch Brothers’ virtuosic bass player. Tice is a rare guitar player whose music showcases his unique identity and a particular knack for song and tune-writing. However\, despite their ability to contribute to many musical situations\, something special happens when they unite as Hawktail. Their latest single\, “RUNAWAYS\,” showcases a more complex rock sound with a guest solo by Metallica’s Kirk Hammett. The band’s fourth album\, ‘How Long Will It Take Them To Die\,’ offers a dark yet lighthearted collection inspired by American history. Their song “Hypothermic” tells a story set in the frigid tundra of Canada. In 2020\, their song “The Railroad” was featured in the intro sequence of the first episode of Netflix’s “Tiger King\,” and in 2021\, they covered “Of Wolf and Man” for The Metallica Blacklist. \nMadeline Hawthorne\, a singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist\, was born in New England and is now based in Bozeman\, Montana. Her independent album\, Tales From Late Nights & Long Drives\, released in 2024\, is a perfect soundtrack for a cross-country trek or late-night contemplation. According to Madeline\, the album reflects her experiences on tour and her life in Montana\, blending stories from her travels with moments of inspiration. Their latest studio album\, “How To Make Mistakes\,” reflects the band’s revitalized energy and seasoned expertise. It’s a fusion of rock\, soul\, folk\, and pop\, co-produced by the band and recorded entirely live. What originated as a busking string band has now transformed into something more diverse\, rooted in the distinct voices of three singers and the unity of five friends who value authenticity above all else\, imperfections included. “How To Make Mistakes” encompasses the full spectrum of the band’s musical journey\, blending acoustic and electrified arrangements to create a versatile sound suitable for stadiums and intimate gatherings. It marks the band’s commitment to the long haul\, one song at a time. \nMaya de Vitry has a captivating voice and is known for bringing songs to life with a soulful intimacy. She tours with various collaborators and has supported tours for artists like John Craigie and The Wood Brothers. During a tour in April 2023\, Maya felt inspired by her live band and arranged a recording session with them. The resulting EP\, Infinite\, features new songs and a cover performed with depth and tenderness by Maya and her band.
