Harvest is upon us! Our interns are here (Danielle, Johnathan, and Nataly), trained up, and all our equipment has been thoroughly dusted off and sanitized. I’ve been sampling vineyards over the last few months and have been watching all our vineyards start to ripen up as we approach harvest. Most years we start harvesting Pinot Noir first, and I’ve been traversing our County looking at all our Pinot Noir blocks at Eden Rift, Escolle, Tondre, and Brosseau very closely.
This year, however, Chardonnay will get the party started, and we’re in the final preparations for receiving our first delivery of grapes tomorrow – organically farmed Chardonnay from Brosseau Vineyard in the Chalone AVA of Monterey County. These grapes will get pressed tomorrow and will become our Natural Chardonnay – an expressive wine we made in 2019 without any additions, and something that truly represents the place it came from. It is just the beginning of what Vintage 2021 is, and the potential for amazing wines. For me, it’s like going to bed on Christmas Eve as a child, with anticipation and wonder – unsure of what the future might bring. Wish us luck on this adventure, and check back often to be part of the magic.
