Greg Freeman
Greg Freeman is a local guitarist and bagpiper. As The Valley Piper, you may have seen him playing bagpipes at Carmel Beach at the end of Ocean Ave as he has been most nights, playing the golden hour leading up to sunset, for the last 6 years. As a solo guitarist and a half of the duet, Ruby Slippers, Greg plays acoustic guitar through a looper. This allows him to layer parts and play solos over his own playing. His style might be called soft rock, acoustic, mellow, and intricate with a finger-picking style of playing. Greg has also been a winemaker in Monterey County for the last 25 years at wineries such as Hahn, Chalone, Cowgirl, and Constellation Brands, although he has retired from winemaking. Greg has lived in Texas, Oregon, Alaska, Santa Fe, NM, New Orleans, and Colorado. Careers in restaurants, cooking, nuclear chemistry labs, travelling African band, commercial salmonĀ fishing, and radio DJ led him to the Central Coast 25 years ago. Greg sits in the Carmel Chamber of Commerce as Past Board Chair and loves music, wine, and being anywhere in or near Carmel and Carmel Valley.
